To GMO or not to GMO - That is the question

Have you ever set down and really studied the Kosher Laws. How are they perceived, and who really looks after them. Well, I have. For the most part, I believe they are very loosely written. At times I believe they are even in error. So I will try to explain to you what I think. 

Here is what Wikipedia says about Kosher:

Kashrut (also kashruth or kashrus, כַּשְׁרוּת) is the set of Jewish dietary laws. Food that may be consumed according to halakha (Jewish law) is termed kosher in English, from the Ashkenazi pronunciation of the Hebrew term kashér (כָּשֵׁר), meaning "fit" or “pure” (in this context, fit for consumption or undefiled). Food that is not in accordance with Jewish law is called treif (Yiddish: טרײף or treyf, derived from Hebrew טְרֵפָה trēfáh). Kosher can also refer to anything that is fit for use or correct.

Now some of the Jewish kosher laws can get a bit ….a….. Well I do believe a lot of them are derived by Rabbi’s interpretation of what they think the scripture says. I am going to stay on the scripture references for all of my explanations.

We will start in Bereshith 1:11

Gen 1:11  And Elohim said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the plant that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth.” And it came to be so.

Gen 1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, the plant that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in

Here we see YAHWEH brought forth the grass, plants, and trees. This includes all the “green” products in our life. Here is what K&D says in there commentary…

At the command of YAHWEH “the earth brought forth green (דִּשֶׁא), seed yielding herb (עֵשֶׂב (breh), and fruit-bearing fruit-trees (פְּרִי עֵץ).” These three classes embrace all the productions of the vegetable kingdom. דֶּשֵׁא, lit., The young, tender green, which shoots up after rain and covers the meadows and downs is a generic name for all grasses and cryptogamous plants. עֵשֶׂב, with the epithet זֶרַע מַזְרִיעַ, yielding or forming seed, is used as a generic term for all herbaceous plants, corn, vegetables, and other plants by which seed-pods are formed. פרי עץ: not only fruit-trees, but all trees and shrubs, bearing fruit in which there is a seed according to its kind, i.e., fruit with kernels. הָאָרֶץ עַל (upon the earth) is not to be joined to “fruit-tree,” as though indicating the superior size of the trees which bear seed above the earth, in distinction from vegetables which propagate their species upon or in the ground; for even the latter bear their seed above the earth. It is appended to תַּדְשֵׁא, as a more minute explanation: the earth is to bring forth grass, herb, and trees, upon or above the ground, as an ornament or covering for it. לְמִיגֹו (after its kind), from מִין species, which is not only repeated in Gen_1:12 in its old form לְמִיגֵהוּ in the case of the fruit-tree, but is also appended to the herb. It indicates that the herbs and trees sprang out of the earth according to their kinds, and received, together with power to bear seed and fruit, the capacity to propagate and multiply their own kind.

Now remember this ……. When YAHWEH brought these forth, they were whole and complete. All grass, all plant life, and all trees. These weren’t seeds that had to be planted. They were full grown, mature, and seed bearing. Man had not touched anything nor had nature added anything to the mix. This is very important to understand. These were pure and unadulterated.  Once again, they were pure, and undefiled. They were whole…… no modifications……..

let’s talk about “GMO”


 What does GMO mean? Genetically Modified Organism is the most common usage (though 'manipulated' or even 'mutated' might also be appropriate!) The acronyms GEO (Genetically Engineered Organism) or simply GM or GE are also used. Genetic engineering is a radical new technology that forces genetic information across the protective species barrier in an unnatural way.


This is what Wikipedia says:   A genetically modified organism (GMO) or genetically engineered organism (GEO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. These techniques, generally known as recombinant DNA technology, use DNA molecules from different sources, which are combined into one molecule to create a new set of genes. This DNA is then transferred into an organism, giving it modified or novel genes. Transgenic organisms, a subset of GMOs, are organisms that have inserted DNA from a different species. GMOs are the constituents of genetically modified foods.

Let’s go over some scripture:

Gen 1:11 And Elohim said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the plant that yields seed, and

The fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in it, on the earth.”

And it came to be so.

Gen 1:12  And the earth brought forth grass, the plant that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And Elohim saw that it was good.

Gen 1:21 And Elohim created great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters teemed, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And Elohim saw that it was good.

Gen 1:25 And Elohim made the beast of the earth according to its kind, livestock according to its kind, and all that creep on the earth according to its kind. And Elohim saw that it was good.

Deu 22:9  “Do not sow your vineyard with different kinds of seed, lest the yield of the seed which you have sown and the fruit of your vineyard be defiled.

Lev 19:19 ‘Guard My laws. Do not let your livestock mate with another kind. Do not sow your field with mixed seed. And do not put a garment woven of two sorts of thread upon you.

Ezr 6:21 And the children of Yisra’ĕl who had returned from the exile ate together with all who had separated themselves from the uncleanness of the gentiles of the land in order to seek יהוה Elohim of Yisra’ĕl.

Ezr 10:11  “And now, make confession to יהוה Elohim of your fathers, and do His desire, and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the foreign women.”

Isa 52:11 Turn aside! Turn aside! Come out from there, touch not the unclean. Come out of her midst, be clean, you who bear the vessels of יהוה.

Jer 51:45  “Come out of her midst, My people! And let everyone deliver his being from the burning displeasure of יהוה

Rev 18:4  And I heard another voice from the heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.

Well, there you go. I have showed you some very simple facts. The decision is up to you. I believe that GMO is the curse of mankind’s wisdom. We believe that we are better than YAHWEH, and can make things better and cheaper……. Just remembers Rev. 18:4 “lest you share in her sins and lest you receive her plagues……..
